primer sealer durability
« on: March 23, 2010 - 03:08:49 PM »
i've come to the realization that the paint job my car deseves wont be coming this summer but have a couple questions. i was originaly planning on sealing the car with a tintable sealer so it was close to orange, but since i will be driving it this summer is it a bad idea leaving it in sealer. i was also thinking of going to a black sealer for the looks instead :bigshades: what kind of coverage would i get with orange over black? or should i do it in a single stage hot rod black and repaint next year :dunno:

thanks

if it was me i would put 2 coats of epoxy on it,and if you already sealed it scuff it up to open the sealer up and sand it good..the epoxy will keep it protected but if your a wash happy person the put three on it..lol..some people dont like it but its a great save point if you need to stop on your car and its going to be awhile for your able to get back on it..when i do cars for people not everybody is rich..so when i get to a stopping point or their money runs out i want to protect what i have done i use the epoxy..oh and make sure you let sit like it says dont mix it up like a primer and spray it you will be kicking yourself in the butt..I know I fired a guy that work for me for doing it and he knew better..if i can help anymore just hit me up

I found this company that makes tinted primers. I don't know anything about this product; how good it is, etc.

Yea tintable primer has been around on the market a while,i know ppg has it and a couple of companys have it,If it was me i wouldnt take a chance with these smaller companys like that..go to your local paint supply place and ask about what they have, that way if there is a problem or your not sure they are there  :2cents:

use black epoxy primer and when ready to paint later, just sand/scuff ,shoot a coat of tintable sealer followed by orange or whatever color you decide, epoxy locks out moisture and has amazing adhesion properties compared to regular 2K primers or hot-rod black

i have been spraying all my new parts with epoxy, and i have some high build on the rest of the car so it's fine to scuff and shoot over all these with a few coats of epoxy and leave it til' i'm ready?

sure sand it and shoot 2 coats and you are good to go..just make sure you sand it good or scuff it which ever..what kind of epoxy you using? yes you can use them as a sealer if your done with everything i would put 2 coats, then when ever you get ready to paint the car use the same kind and add some reducer say around 20% and let it set a few minutes and spray a good coat on the car for sealer..then i wait about a hour then start laying my base, make sure you use the right temp reducer for what ever the temp is where you are and the same one in the base, and thats it

i believe its a dupont but i cant remember i will need to pick up some more , i've been using it for direct to metal and then a high build on top, then my single stage top coat(trunk, door jambs, under hood)

thanks for all the help
