Hydraulic Lifter Preload
« on: March 23, 2010 - 06:16:15 PM »
I'm ready to adjust my Crane ductile rockers on my 440.  how much preload should I give them? take all the slack out and then 2/3 of a turn or so? maybe even a full turn it shouldn't hurt anything right? it seems like most of the time I've done this on other brands of engine it's always a little noisy so I don't think I'm giving it enough.

What cam and what lifter is in it? Could be anywhere from 1/4-turn to 3/4-turn or more.

Standard hydraulic lifters, a custom grind cam that's basically an improved six pack cam.

Standard stock lifters are pretty forgiving. So I'd say around 1/2 turn if fine.
