E body 4 speed shifter
« on: April 03, 2010 - 08:27:50 PM »
Does anyone know if the regular Hurst Competition Shifter will work on a 1971 Challenger 4 speed with the original shifter rods?  Also how about a regular handle instead of the pistol grip?

You must be trying the same route I did as my shifter needed a rebuild. Rebuild was $350 and Hurst new price was $300 something.
Anyway - I contacted Hurst and they informed me that the standard Comp shifter is not like the Dodge offering. Dodge stuff use special shifter forks in the shifter. Brewers makes the shifter forks and installs them into the Hurst shifter body. They have a different offset and shifter rod holes. They sell what you want for $399. I bought that product and will sell my stock original EBody unit.

I think they are 100 % compatible,  back in the 80's I replaced my Verticle gate with a new Hurst Competition plus shifter and new from mopar stock 4 speed shifter rods and an NOS Pistol grip , I still run this unit....... I could be wrong but the difference is the shifter is a bolt in on the Competition Plus and the there are two bolts on the mechanism for fine tuning that are not on the original shifter mechanism ........

Correct me if I am wrong  that the way I remember it but its been 28 years......

Hurst can rebuild your shifter to whatever specifications you want for around $165. Call them for an RMA, send your stuff in, and they call you with results and issues they find in the process.
