6-way seats.
« on: April 04, 2010 - 10:23:18 AM »
My original 6-way seat track was fine unless I really got on the motor, then the front part of the seat would fly up and try to throw me in the back. That caused more than a few brown stains in the back of the pants over the years. I just figured the teeth were worn on it, so I splurged for a repro from P.G.Classic. I made my maiden voyage with it this morning, and it is even worse. I comes up even when I'm driving normally.   :stomp:  The obvious solution is to send the POS back and try again, but since I have two tracks doing the same thing now, I'm wondering if this is some kind of design flaw. Has anyone else gone thru this?

Mine has never, ever done that. Then again, I don't have big block horsepower either. However, when I do adjust it, I do make sure that the lever is perfectly horizontal then I sort of "jump" on the seat and yank up on the front to make sure it's locked in.

As of now I'm thinkin' either get the 2-way seat tracks, or drop in a slant-six.

Mike,
Common questions that we use at work when troubleshooting computer problems.

Does it happen with other users or just you?

Mike, mine doesn't do it either. Have you made sure that the levers and all are fully engaged?

I had to lube mine up to get it where I wanted.  :clueless:

Al,
If my car is faster than you 499 6-pack, or whatever you have, then I will be shocked. But this baby does get up and go. I definitely notice the rear tires have more tread wear than the fronts. What would cause this?

Rob,
I am the only one to drive this car since I bought it. I suppose if someone much shorter than I,  with the front of the seat lifted a bit more and that person weighing maybe 50-60 pounds less than me, there might not be a problem. I get your point though.   :grinyes: There is always the operator error factor.

Wally,
Here is my history. My original 6-way was frozen in both the back and front going up and down. I Took it out and lubed it all well. The front started working right away, but the back was always frozen all the way up. So this unit was fine until I nailed the gas pedal, then it would come up and try to throw me in the back seat.   :22yikes:  The new unit is even scarier in that regard. Maybe I should find a position I like and weld that dang thing. Being on the tall side, I don't need the seat to be up all the way. Of course if I had a convertible, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I would return the new tracks as defective, the find a regular set of 2 way tracks, like you mentioned.  Save the originals to go with the car if you ever sell it. My 3 cars have regular tracks and I never saw the need for a 6-way and I'm shorter than you.
