Removing Ram nose emblem?
« on: March 26, 2010 - 07:05:44 PM »
After checking out a number of replacement nose badges sold by various sources, I saw one on ebay that really caught my eye.  I bought one the other day and it should arrive in the mail any day now. :woohoo:
How do you remove the old fugly Ram badge without messing up anything?  Is it just glued on?  If so I am told you can just soak it with some WD40 and then slice the adhesive tape with some dental floss to remove it.  But I know there is a peg on the back of the ram, so I want to make sure it doesn't bolt on or something?

Fortunately I found a video searching online on how to remove the badge.

It wasn't quite intuitive, I probably would have trashed the old one and maybe scratched the paint a little prying it off if I didn't have that video!  Even with the video, it wasn't quite as quick as it looks, but not too bad.  I did end up with a little stress crack on one side of the chrome part of the old one, but otherwise, it still is nice if I ever want to reinstall it.
The new one looks good! A lot better that that goat on the stock emblem!

Thanks for that video. I'll try swapping mine tomorrow... If it ever stops raining here.   :pullinghair:

I popped it out with my fingers , the emblem is in two pieces , the chrome pops off & the black is locked into the body with 2 tabs , no glue & easily removed

Knowing then what I know now, I probably could have got the chrome ram portion off with my fingers, I didn't realize it had some protrusions that slid in two tabs that were toward the bottom of the black rubber piece.
I found that the black rubber piece was sort of a pain to remove.  I didn't have a plastic tool like shown in the video to slide underneath it to pry, but I remembered I had a plastic tool from a local crabhouse for cracking crab legs, so I used that!  I pried and one tab popped out of the nose pretty easily with a load bang.  But the other side was a pain, I yanked on the plastic piece with a lot of force, and the tab did not want to come out.  The tab started showing stress marks where it attached to the rest of the black piece, and I was pretty sure it was going to break off.  Finally I decided what was done was done, and if the black piece was going to get destroyed, so be it.  I pulled with both hands and finally the second tab popped out without it tearing off the rest of the black base piece.
I don't know how one could get their finger under that black piece to pry it loose unless your fingers are only about 1/8" thick!
