4 speed console
« on: April 04, 2010 - 07:49:52 PM »
Has anyone got any ideas on where to get a 4 speed console for a 71 challenger.  Have looked on ebay and checked forum used parts.  Year one is god awful expensive.   :money:

you can cut the auto console to fit , but you still need a 4 spd top plate for the console

If your car was an A/T before, you need to add a bracket on the back tunnel.

Here's the template to modify the side area of the console.

Yea it did have a automatic console but the previous owner butchered up putting a B&M shifter on it.  I'm hopping I can find just the front bracket like in the picture.  The rear is still there but someone had cut the front one off.  Thanks for the info.

If you buy an aftermarket one from Tony's be sure to buy the automatic one and cut it out yourself using a 4spd template.  Their 4 spd version is just an automatic console precut by them which you pay an extra $20 for.  I made the mistake of buying the 4 spd one originally and it was horrible.....it looked like whoever did the cutting was on some serious drugs at the time.  I had to send it back and get the automatic.

Also, if you buy an aftermarket top plate don't buy one from P.G. Classics, theirs is the wrong size and doesn't fit in the console right.  I bought one and didn't realize until a few months later when I went to use it that they made them longer than the original ones.  :pullinghair:

I know you can't really see it after being installed but the automatic console and the 4 speed console have a hole that is move over a certain way. I have both and cutting an automatic still leaves a section missing.
