Found my new engine
« on: April 13, 2010 - 10:23:00 PM »
1972 340 with the cast crank but never been bored out, still 4.04. All there--seen pictures with heads off--its old but looks decent. $600 wasn't like the buy of the day but hes not too far from where I was hoping to take a road trip on next week. Seems like a very honest seller on ebay. Claims he used the motor a few years back and it was fine but he was going to restore a 71 Dart but being laid off hes selling everything. Comes with oil pan up to a carb..everything is there but I plan on selling what ever I can expect for the block and rods..

Found a cool engine shop today too. Guy walked me though how to ID cast vs forged pistons and cranks.

Going to St Louis next week and can pick the motor up on the way back home--just 10 miles out of my way--how cool is that--another reason I agreed to $600.

What is in St Louis---drag racing--all night long--9pm to 2am..Outlaw St Louis style-- instant green lights! So fastest car wins--not best driver.

600 is a steal.  I paid that for a stock bore block, forged rods and crank, and pistons and thought I did pretty good.  And I had to drive 325 miles one way to get it.

I post pictures of it when I get it....haven't celebrated just yet--not until the shop OKs it for cracks and stock bore...the bore I should be able to tell and the pistons looked stock in the picture...

The seller sells loads of stuff but mostly GM stuff and some little mopar stuff....he sounded cool over the phone too, lol.

Its a good 300 miles from me too one way but I am swinging a 2 day holiday in St Louis to break the trip up......but like I'm going to be Mr Tight wad there since I have engine parts to buy :(
