440/727 driveshaft
« on: April 22, 2010 - 11:52:29 AM »
I need to get a driveshaft for my car.  It was originally a 318/904 70 Chally, now 440/727.  Is their driveshafts that will interchange or should I have one cut?  I have a driveshaft from a B-body (I think).  It seems to be bigger around. What would be my best bet?  Thanks, danny

I assume you have & are keeping the 8 3/4" diff as changing the diff will change the length
the shaft from the 904 will work , it will be approx 4" too long but can be cut down , you will need the larger slip yolk for the 727 though . They used 2 different U joints , the smaller 7260 & the larger 7290 joint , the 7290 would be beter for the 44o but the smaller joint will live as well assuming you are not running high stall converter & slicks

Yes Neil, I have 8 3/4 rearend.  I purchsed a slip yoke.  I didn't have the drive shaft for it.  I used a B-body rear end with shackle relocators.  Thanks, Danny
