help with steering column wiring

I'm just about to install the steering column back in , thought I'd double check the wiring against the old components. the ignition switch wiring... Were the old switch has a small orange wire ...3 from the end. the new one has a small black wire? the next 2 are small red wires for the key buzzer. I get that but whats the small orange wire for? On the new ingnition switch I seem to remember the small black wire being attached to the housing of the switch, like a ground or something? I assembled this 10 months ago so I could be wrong as to were it goes. Now I'm wondering if I recieved the wrong switch?

Is it for a column shift?  Orange makes me think it lights up the prnd2l.   Check it with a test lite and turn on the dimmer switch maybe?  Im shootin from the hip in a motel room right now

Hummm it was a column shift originally! You just might be right! But the floor shift column had the same orange wire in the same position too, in the old ignition switch?

well as I suspected Orange is usually dash lights , the wiring diagram says indicator light so it could light the ign key or the Prndl21

    I guess I had better tear it appart to make sure what the small black wire is for then.

OK I tore it apart....again!  This is what I have. notice the difference between the 2 is the little black wire. What does it do? I have no idea if it's a 70 column I think its a latter column. If that gives any clues?  HELP!!!!!

The wires needed are:
Red---12v in
Black--- ACC
Yellow--- Start circuit to relay
Brown---Ignition while in start position
Blue----Ignition while in run position and voltage to regulator, Alt and sometimes 6-
                    pack Inti-diesel sol.

Extra wires like that black one can be used for turning on a relay for another circuit. Use a test light to see when it is hot. (Start or run)  Then decide if you want to use it for something else. If not, tape it off and get back to work!

Does the key buzzer have to be in or can the switch and 2 red wires be deleted?
