dash parts install sequence
« on: April 26, 2010 - 05:50:46 PM »
what is the install order of all the dash parts? The dash frame is out of the car and I have a new dashpad to install. In particular, in the assembly sequence, when does the dashpad get installed? This is a 1971 Challenger, non-Ralley dash, with A/C cutouts which will not be used as A/C-heater box is removed but will have the A/C dash vents installed and single center speaker. How much can be preinstalled in the dash before putting dash back in the car? Thanks for any help on this.

Assemble the complete dash unit pad, wiring and all then install as a whole unit. No steering column installed, then hook up your cables, speedo, and column

Thanks Moparal for the reply. So on a bare dash frame, I should install the dash pad first, then all the wiring, instrument cluster, switches, bezels, etc.

I do it that way. There are some tight spots to get those little cap nuts on

You might consider building a dash frame jig first. It will make things a lot easier.  ;)

Thanks Chryco for the followup recommendation. Also to Slotts, thanks for the dash frame jig picture. I had already built a dash frame roteserrie, but my mounting connections are in the way for mounting the dash pad so I will use your jig idea. Again, Thanks to everyone.
