ECU bracket important?

I currently have my ECU (chrome Mopar) mounted dirct to the firewall.

I know that the cars with the ECU came with a bracket that mounted to the frewall and then the ECU mounetd to that.

How important is that bracket?

Should I buy and install one?

the first couple of years they did not use a bracket & most that I have seen mounted after as in non factory have been mounted on the firewall , the reason I think is to keep water running down the firewall from getting to the box & distroying the seal & shorting it internally so I think it i sa good idea to have the bracket but not mandatory

Keep the firewall as clean as you can.

If you have a big-block, the OEM-style mounting bracket will bolt to the rear intake pan rail, so the unit is out of sight.  Not sure if it'll work on a SB.

I don't think that area back there generates a lot of heat.  You don't see distributors melting on small blocks do you?
