It could be a matter of the combination. What are the specs of the cam, what gear ratio, and what gears are you running? And is this a big block or small block? It could also be a tuning issue, How did it run before the cam swap?

torque converter = night/day difference if it's stock or a cheapie off the shelf. :2cents:

Sorry to hear that, I'm sure some of the mechanical guru's here will be able to help you through it soon.
I'll just say that mine would hardly turn over a tire back in the day with a one legged diff. but by paying attention to how to set the ignition timing and carburetor tuning my more or less stock low compression 340 lights them both up easily through a posi rear.

You're going to have a little less on the bottom end with that cam but should have more on the top end. How's it run once you get going?

Ya know this is in the wrong section if your looking for technical advice, & the title doesn't convey the situation.
Try posting in the Tech section under Engine & Go Fast Goodies with a title more along the lines of New Cam Low ON Power.

Did you degree the cam in or just dot to dot on a timing chain ?   If the installed center isn't where it should be, it could be doggish on the bottom and wake up in the mid range.  Also, you said you changed the carb. Maybe it is not working well, or the timing isn't set right. A little 268 cam should roast tires when tuned right. You may be overlooking something

Same cam, more or less, that's in my 318. Start with the tuning!

that was gona be our next step to degree the cam we just installed it dot to dot, and also the carb isnt the greatest i think the accelerator pump is starting to die. looking at getting a quick fuel 650 spread boar with mechanical secondaries

I second that!! If you dont have the correct stall speed you might be able to keep those rear tires from going up in smoke..
