forged pistons
« on: June 06, 2002 - 05:34:27 AM »
I have a 360 engine putting out approx 300 hp, rebuilt with a summit racing kit, with hyper pistons. I want to give it an additional 100-200hp nos boost, will these pistons hold up? ,or will I need forged pistons? If any, what else will I have to replace?

I would replace the pistons, & everything needed to make the 360 reliable at 500-600 hp  , you are close to the limits of the cast crank & may want to use stronger rods as well like Eagles.  Nos is very hard on engines partially due to the Hit when you push the button ,, if you make 500HP it is a smooth application / rise in power but Nos instantly Shocks the rotating parts.
The way Hyper pistons were explaned to me is the mix in silicon for strenght in the alum which is like mixing chocolate chip cookie dough , no matter how much you mix it some cookies get 20 chips & some get none , the ones with low slicon content are weaker , personally I just spend the extra & buy forged pistons , it is way cheaper than building another engine when a piston fails

I agree
for sure I'd by a new MP crank
the stock casts cranks will microcrack over time
