Need a cam for a 340
« on: May 05, 2010 - 12:02:09 PM »
I am looking for a cam for my 340 and was going to go with the Hughes Whiplash because I like the performance and the loopy sound at idle. I tried ordering one but they are on backorder. Anything like this one?

340 bored 40 over
750 Holley
3.55 gears
727 trans
stock J heads
RPM Edelbrock intake.

I recently swapped mine out in a 340 after  :banghead: for a month or so trying to decide. I wanted a nice lopey sound and good usable low end torque. What exactly are you wanting? You will have to choose low end torque or higher end HP or vice versa. Auto or stick? Stall? Gears? These are some things you are gonna have to put together and juggle to find something you are happy with. There are a lot of cams out there but I finally decided on Lunati. Check out their Voodoo line. I went with a 60402. If you look at their numbers with comps from Hughes I think you would be happier with a Lunati Voodoo series.

I decided with the 60402. I called Lunati and gave them all the info and they came up with the same cam. Thanks IndyCuda for your help

It's no problem, your set up is real similar to mine. I have a 2400 stall but stock gears. Let me know how you like it with those gears. I want to put some 3.55's in mine.

Does your engine have a nice lopey sound at idle and did you have any additional work done to the heads for the cam?

I have stage 1 porting and 2.02 valves. It has a nice lope, not choppy.
