I used a 1" wide chisel & broke the old bushing out in 3 minutes

Well, I finally gave up trying to push it out with grease and used a chisel.  This thing was in there pretty good.  I broke it into little pieces until it finally broke in half.  Took me more like a half hour.  (I should have looked at how dull the chisel was before I started...)

Anyway, I got the bushing out but deeply scored the inner bore in several places.  Not good.  Seems like I'm digging a deeper hole with every step.  I tried to knock down the raised edges with a small file, and could probably clean it up more with a Dremel bit, but it won't exactly be round.    Has me thinking I'd better use the roller bearing.  Does the bearing press into the outer bore?  (Bore measures ~ 1.8" in diameter & ~.63" deep.)

What do you guys think?

As long as you just knock the tops off the gouges, you should be fine with the bushing...I wouldn't get too crazy with the Dremel however...You should be fine if some of the gouge is left in the there, as long as there isn't any RAISED palces that could hinder the new bushing going in...

Well,  I decided to install the bearing inplace of the bushing.  Looks like I installed it backwards, however, based on some pics I saw on this site.  I took the word of the dealer, and my intuition that the large bevel was the lead in for installation.  Oh well...  Too late now.

Anyway, last night I bolted in the flywheel and pressure plate, but didn't use any locktite.  Is a thread locker rcommended or necessary for either or both?  It appeared someone used it on the last install (the bolts were very, very difficult to remove, especially the flywheel bolts.)   I didn't see anything mentioned in my '68 manual for the flywheel, just 55ft-lb of torque.  The installation instructions from McCleod mentions a threadlocker may be used for the pressure plate, but didn't say it was necessary. 

What do you guys think?  Should I reinstall with locktite blue, or am I OK without it.  I'm not in too far to go back and do it again...

It is good to use locktite on the flywheel bolts, pressure plate is optional, I usually don't. If you locktite the flywheel bolts then you can fit the bearing correctly at the same time.   :2thumbs:

Thanks for the input.  I'll pull everything back off and will locktite the flywheel.   I think the bearing is going to have to stay.  It went in pretty tight, and i don't have a way to get it back out without damaging it.  I'm guess the worst that can happen (by leaving it) is it might be a little more difficult getting the input shaft to slide in.  Honestly, I don't remember what the other side really looked like.  Is there much of a lead in (chamfer) anyway?
