The gremlins seem to have gone on vacation for the time being. I have a nice 1/8th mile road to get to my house and I took the car for a little burn and managed to get third gear rubber. It's still a little rough, but that might have alot to do with the fact that I haven't driven a 4 speed in about 15 or 20 years. I spend a little time playing with the idle mixture screws and that seems to have helped a little. I think there are still timing issues, but I can deal with them when I find a neighbor with a timing light.

that would have been a huge vacuum leak where you plugged that hose no wonder it ran rough.
