I dont have a pic handy, but the 2 things I do know are the light panel has to be grounded and the switch panel has 1 screw that grounds all the switches to the dash frame. If these 2 items are not correct, you will have problems

As Al mentioned, your light bar needs to be firmly grounded, but another problem is the dimmer switch going to heaven. I replaced my bad dimmer with a toggle switch and it puts out plenty of light. I suggest you talk to fellow member Slotts if you find your dimmer switch is bad and you want to stay with it.

Mike, I got rid of the light bar years ago when I first went with another set of gauges & they worked fine. The dimmer also appears to working . I just can not get the gauges to light up. Call tech. support & I was told to be sure that 1. Connect the red wire to power / key (done) 2. Connect the purple wire to a constant power source (done) 3. Connect the white wire to the dash light wire... having trouble locating this one!!! 4. Connect the black wire to ground (done). The gauges cycle up upon start but I have no lights...any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you are using autometer gauges, I belive the white wire is power for the gauge lights (at least it is on mine).

You cold wire the white to a power souce and see if the lights come on, based on wht tech support said, I woudl think that is the case.

The dash light wire on my 74 is an orange wire with a large orange plug on the end (it has 3 female inputs),  hook the white wire to that and it should operate with the dash lights/dimmer.

You could also hook the white wire directly to the dimmer, if you can determine which prong is the out put.

Factory wiring for the dimmer controlled dash lights was always an orange wire , not sure which terminal on the dimmer controls it though

Even using aftermarket gauges, if you are using the stock dimmer switch, the switch "panel" has to be grounded for the rotary dimmer to work, the metal tab, lower left corner of your picture, or just any part of the metal bracket that the switches are mounted on. Then the dimmer voltage from the orange dash wire should work...

:iagree:
There is a triple connection orange plug just to the right side of where the gauges go. If you got rid of your light bar, it used to be plugged into it. It would be a more convenient place to connect than the dimmer. :2cents:
