'70 Challenger rear wheel arches
« on: May 11, 2010 - 12:08:02 AM »
Is there anybody that manufactures just the wheel arch section of the quarter panel? or will I need to buy the full panels? (or find someone willing to pre-cut some from a parts car)

I've never seen that offered. Your reference picture is of a complete quarter, there is a less expensive "Quarter Panel Skin"  that you could cut down

That is true, but the one I used from Sherman's fit like crap.

I should have been more specific.I realise the picture is of a full quarter, but the highlighted section is the section I'm referring to.

do you need it for rust repair?  if so, I can hardly imagine there won`t be any rust on the lower front&rear qtr...
also if you go this route, it will be hard to keep the panel straight when welding.
I used a lower rear repairpanel from sherman and if fit like crap too.  :P

The Challenger I'm currently looking at buying has some bubbles around both rear arches.

Waiting on an inspection report to give me a rundown on how much of it there is. Owner says it's been there for years without growing, and it's all there is.

I'm of the mind it would more than likely spread beyond just the arch, but you never know :)

for some reason those bubbles always start growing when a car gets a new owner...  :dunno:

Darn Dutch. Quit stealing all the glory. :cooldancing: Dutch is dead on and I suggest you listen to him. Do the whole panel and save yourself a lot of grief a year or two from now. You can weld a partial section in like you want to but you better be on your game. Tack it in - then stitch it in slow and cold. (low heat). Take your time and don't over heat the panel.

Dutch & Todd are correct.  You can save yourself some time by installing a full quarter (Either AMD or Sherman).  As a side note, all of the partial panels from Sherman are from the old tools back in the day (very poor quality).  The new full quarters they carry are higher quality and the fit is really good compared to the older parts that used to be available.  Here is a picture of a full quarter from Sherman that we installed onto our challenger.

Also, AMD now offers a quarter skin that is cut from their OEM style full quarters.

Good to know .. thanks fellas.

I guess now looking at the picture, why wouldn't I just get the full panel? By the time you'd factor in the cutting, welding, fabricating, body prep, paint matching etc - going with the full quarter straight off the bat makes a lot of sense.
