How Does This 440 Build Sound?
« on: May 16, 2010 - 07:24:32 PM »
I will be building my 440 soon and am in the process of finding and buying parts for it. So how does this sound, I am looking to make a little over 400hp.
What I have
-1976 Block .030" over
-Cast Crank .010" Under
-LY Rods
-Sealed power Cast SEA350P Pistons with a 1.990" comp. height, sold as 9.4:1
-Performer RPM intake
-stock volume oil pump
-Carter Fuel Pump
-Stock Rockers
What I plan to buy
-440 Source Heads
-ARP Main Bolts
-Single bolt Voodoo hydraulic cam I dont know which one yet
-850cfm Holley Carb
-Maybe a steel shim head gasket to get slightly higher compression?
So how does this sound, should I be able to get over 400hp with this? Any advice?
Thanks

Sounds good to me
not sure on that piston part #
I would skip the main bolts unless you are going to run the main studs which is overkill
the Voodoo cam is the same cost as a 3 bolt & is a stronger system as a 3 bolt

Thanks, what cam would you recommend. It is automatic with a currently stock converter and 2.45 rear gears that I will be upgrading to 3.23 gears after I grenade the 8-1/4" and probably a new converter around that time.

Thanks why not go with the ARP bolts, the ones currently on there look like they are thirty years old.

I have never seen a main bolt fail , they are high grade bolts originally , never hurts to change them out but I would use studs instead & I feel there are better places to spend your $$ on a mild build
