Comp has new SB solid rollers that require no machining?
« on: May 13, 2010 - 08:57:28 PM »
I was looking at this month's Mopar Muscle and there was an article that mentioned using Comp's new roller lifters that require no machining. Does anyone know anything about this? I tried looking on Comp's website, but I can't find anything.

Few have the money to check them out :roflsmiley:

Sounds good but I found a NOS old Crane Cam for $35 on Ebay I will run. 226 and 230 @ .030 should be great. Guess I use the money I saved from going roller on racing oil with high zinc

Well, I'm not even close to buying anything soon. I just think it's cool that they don't require machining. And since I'm gonna be building my engine from the ground up (maybe even a new block) I'm looking at all the options to get the most power possible. And if I can drop a roller cam in without machining the block, then by all means I will. :working:

Yes, comp has them. They are a design that was done with Indio Motor Machine in CA. I havent used them but there are good reports from others. Truthfully the normal rollers fit a factory type block with very minor clearancing. It's the race blocks that have all kinds of issues with them because where they need to be trimmed is close to water in the valley. I think they also have a relocate pushrod cup to help the pushrod angle.

Does machining the block only refer to small blocks when running a roller cam?  I have never heard of having to machine your block to run a roller cam in a big block.

Looks like a great cam option too! I saw this as well in the mag.

Yes a factory pre magnum 273, 318, 340 and 360s require clearancing on the block for the rollers, these new ones do not!

it would be a hot ticket for a fast ramp cam, no solid ZDP issues etc and should make great power and low wear.

Expect the SBM has a bad pushrod angle for roller cams. The roller lifters are higher and the pushrods are shorter.

This is why the factory had those big pushrod holes in the factory cylinder heads for the roller cam engines of the late 80's-early 90's.

I have new Comp Cams solid roller lifters. And they oil through pushrods because i use t&d rockers.

I ordered the from doug herbert, he told me that comp cams sent wrong type lifters ( they had straight tie bar). And doug ordered a new set with different type tie bar. No machining required!
