Shop manual pages for 1966 power steering pump
« on: May 10, 2010 - 03:33:59 PM »
I installed my power steering pump last weekend and seems like there are some problems possibly in the flow control valves inside the pump. My engine (383) and accessories came off from 1966 fury. Anyone got a shop manual available for that year and could print the power steering pump part into a pdf and send to me? I only have manuals for 70 and 73 and as far as I know the pump style changed somewhere around 69 or so?

To outside the pump looks almost exactly the same as the Chrysler pump used on 70+ models but the internals are quite different. This is the pump that has a round filler neck. I'm mostly interested if this one has the same kind of flow control valve inside the pump as the newer version has. The valve drops the output flowrate of the pump as a function of the pump's rotational speed.

A pic without the reservoir:

I have some info for you.  The pump with a round filler neck is the "older style pump made by Chrysler.  Here is a link to bigblockdart tech pages.  They have a new website, and all the tech info has not been transfered yet.  The following is in their OLD tech section:

I am installing the "older style" pump in my challenger, hope it lives up to what is discussed in the Dart website.

Thanks for the link! I found the problem from my pump when I disassembled it few times and run it on a bench with electric drill. Either me or the previous owner had installed the spool of the pressure relief valve incorrectly. The spool was installed with wrong end first and that caused it to run some of the flow through the pressure relief valve all the time. I reinstalled the valve with the right end first and now it is running like a champ. Live and learn....
