Challenger Vinyl top options

I have owned a 1970 Challenger (JS29U0B) for a little while now and have been searching for information about vinyl tops.  The car is not in running condition at this time.  The vinyl roof is the code V1G (supposed to be Gator Grain), but what is actually left on the car is a blue/black houndstooth vinyl.  It does not appear to have been replaced.

Is this very common?  Also any ideas where to find replacement vinyl roof material of this color?

Welcome to the board Garrett!  Unless they made a mistake at the factory, your car should have had the gator grain vinyl on it.  I haven't seen the houndstooth on any e-body that I know of.  I pulled out my "Challenger and Barracuda Restoration Guide" book and it says that in 1970, the only color choices were black, white, green or Gator Grain.   

If you want to get back to Gator Grain, good luck!  I've been looking for over 3 years with no luck.  I think we're going to settle for a vinyl that's not 100% accurate but pretty close.

Good luck. We'd love to see pics if you have some.  Never saw an e-body with houndstooth before...that would be interesting!

Welcome Garrett!!  Great place here for all us e-body owners and all MOPAR lovers everywhere!!  Thats a great question and good timing too since we have been talking about vinyl tops lately with REV / Redline doing theirs now!!  Yes we would love to see some pics of your ride!!  That was good thinking REV, no one ever asks for PICS!!          lol

 A friend of mine owned this 70 Gran Coupe some years ago. I do remember it was coded for a black vinyl top but at some time in the 70's before he owned it this was put on. I've been told that this pattern was an option from Mercury circa 70. Is your scale similar? And definitely Welcome aboard!!

It appears to be the same material.  Except instead of white mine is a dark blue.  Here is a picture of what is left of my vinyl top material.  On the left, is a piece of faded material, on the right is the unfaded blue color.  Not much is left of the vinyl top.  Unfortunately both of my challengers could be poster children for "cars in barns".  I have owned both cars for a few years now and I am finally ready to begin restoring them.  Thanks for the feedback, more questions to come.
