I don't know about the piston itself, but CRT sends a heavier return spring and a thicker retainer, shim and a new snap ring.

I press two OEM retainers together to make the same thickness retainer. The thicker retainer is only necessary if you have a heavier return spring.

CORRECTION This is what you get with the CRT servo. SOLID servo piston, thicker retainer and heavier spring. (the other one was for early model 727's)

Just an fyi, yes as CRT said you have to pull the trans to change the int lever, but there is much more than going to a 5.0 lever, and in fact unless you mod the number of drum srings etc, in most cases a 4.2 will yeild a better shift. it is all about timing.

I also would install a HD int strut band apply to if you go to all that trouble.

You can get into trick front pumps, drums like the Hemi and 6 pack cars and motor homes that used the 5.0 also had more clutches and plates and HD 4 planetarys as well.

When you get real trick you can even drive the drum to all the fluid to escape faster and allow dfor the clutches to engage even faster.

I hhave been building TFs since I was 15 and I am 50.

My Dart has almost as much $$$$ in the 727 as a 416 stroker about 7k. You can get real crazy on hard parts etc. it all depends what you need and want.

But CRT makes some great points and I would at least go with HD strut applies and billet servo apply pistons.

In a MVB trans the pressures are MUCH greater and these parts will greatly improve performance.

And if you have a 4.2 lever you are OK, but a 5 is great if you make the needed mods, it is all about matching and shift timing.

It is not just about how hard the shifts are but the quickness of the shift and removing as much overlap as you can..

good luck and enjoy:)

Thank you., im overwhelmed of the knowledge on this thread.....unfortunately i do not know the internals of my tranny.....im not running stupid hp....5 to 550 im guessing at that....but my current set up has held up fine....but not having low band apply, is gettin me nervous.....plus the fact i dont like my shifter/pattern, its gettin me thinking....this is a street car 95%...ive always wanted to run it..but havent at the strip.....not knowing the lever i have, drum, sprag...ect...its tough, im just soakin as much info up as i can...and make a decision to as what i want to do....i feel like im giving up performance by gettin away from the rev pattern.....and im counting the days till my tranny hand granades...since i dont have the low band apply......could either one of u explain the overlap ur talkin about.....ive complained on here how my tranny shift hard, in a short shift situation or in traffic lets say wherre u cant wind it out under acccel.......am i understanding it right that maybe i have alot of overlap...and thats why it does it? or i could have the 4.3 or 5.0 lever then?....sorry for the repeat ?...but im really just trying to understand this concept....and im super green on these trannys.....thanks alot.. :clapping:

on another note....marco abruzzio built this tranny for me in summer of 08...i almost certain he put in a bolt in sprag, and thats about all i know....re used my rev valve body as welll.....i havent noticed anything different in the tranny since he rebuilt it though...as i had run this same tranny since 95...he just went trhough it......that sprag and new converter
