727 upgrade to Hemi specs
« on: October 12, 2004 - 06:09:39 PM »
My 70 Challenger probably has a standard, non-hemi trans. What would it take to upgrade it to Hemi specifications? Maybe the pump and bands?

Its behind the 472/525 HP Hemi so I'm hot sure how long it will hold up.

Any idea on the best place to have the tranny done or to get one?

Thanks!!  ;D

Is it a D32 727? I'd pretty sure that 727 will handle that ammount of hp mate, hands down no trouble.  ;) You got any more hp, the 727 is probably hungry for more.

How do you tell if your 727 is a HEMI trans? Is there any numbers stamped on the trans that identify this? Mine is a D32 also.  8)

The Hemi 727 had 5 clutch front drum & 4 pinion planetaries , a regular 727 has 3 clutches , the HD has 4 clutches , & both had 3 pinion planetaries finding the need parts can be difficult & expensive  , while in there you can also upgrade to better bands clutches , bolt in or square roller sprag & a shift kit

Wonder where to find the D32 or any kind of markings other that 727 on top of the bell housing. I do not  believe this is the original trans that came behind the 440 and in front of the Dana 60. I can't find any numbers on it anywhere. It was strong behind the old 72 440 somebody put in it..

This car at one point I believe was in a wrecking yard and all that was left on it was the dash pad. After that it was pieced back together my the mousketeers. I also believe that they didn't really use a 67 Camaro to crash into the bull dozers in vanishing point but in fact used this challenger made to look like a Camaro. Then they made it into a 69 Charger and crashed it into a train for Crazy Larry and Dirty Mary and maybe even the rolled VW bug in Aloha Bobby and Rose. Then the wrecking yard found it and somebody then put it all together the best they could and it found its way to e-bay. Since then I have been trying to get back into shape. I know the front buckets are probably in a Ford pickup somewhere  :o
