points to electronic ignition help needed
« on: May 31, 2010 - 03:52:53 PM »
I am using a Direct Connection electronic ignition conversion kit.  It has an "orange" ECU  box.  I need help with hooking it up.

1) I need a suggestion for an after market coil.  The engine is a 383 bored 30 over. Will be for street use.

2) Is the old (2wire) voltage regulator used along with the ECU or does the ECU take its place?

3) Any help with the wiring(diagrams, etc.) would be appreciated also.

I read some of the previous posts on this subject and was a little worried about setting the system up properly.
Electrical is not my forte and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Let me know if there  is any other info you need to make your suggestions.

Thanks

1. stock coil is fine
2. voltage regulator they are all 2 pin, ecu has to be added and wired in per instruction sheet. which should have been in the box.
3. if you have the I sheets you should be fine.

just make sure when adding in the wires to splice in that you solder and wrap them good.

What questions do you have concerning the diagrams?

Tom

Here are the instructions for the kit if you don't have them already.

Thanks for your input on this topic!

I do have another  few questions.

1) is there a way to test the voltage regulator(off of the car) with a volt meter to see if it is good?

2) I tried to test my coil to see if it was good, but not too sure of the results?

I believe it is a stock coil and is probably 1.5 ohms.

Q3) What ohms setting should I be using on my volt meter?  And what reading(in ohms) would dictate if
it is good or bad?                Thanks      Mike
