Moving is over
« on: June 29, 2010 - 10:39:09 AM »
:faint: Got everything moved to my mothers old home. She passed about 5 years ago and it has taken all this time to clean up the place. Its a nice house in a good area. Its completly paid off, no morgage payments!

And the best part, its 0.65 acres of land. Lots of room to build a garage in the next year or so. I may go the Amish built garage route. They don't need to have a building permit. But I got time to think this out.  :thinkerg:

Stuffing all the car parts into one small shead was the worst part. I can't get to anything right now.  :pullinghair: But thats ok. I'll have room when the garage comes.

Hopefully I can get back to the cars sometime soon.  :jumping:

Good luck on the garage build Dave, but you can't build a big enough garage  :roflsmiley:  I wouldn't shy away from getting the permits though, they can be your friend in the long run and certainly keep you out of trouble with the authorities. They may cost a couple hundred but it will probably be less than fines etc. Double check, the Amish may only be excluded from the permitms only if they are doing work for themselves, which usually mean out in the country, but living within an incorporated town/city the ordinances will probably require them even if you would do the work yourself.  :dunno:  Good luck, glad your getting this opportunity. Our garage property was owned by Pam's parents, but we had to submit bids to buy it just like anybody else through the real estate broker.

Thanks Jim. The Amish built garage would be built and then delivered. They (the county) consider them a temp./portable structure so a permit is not needed. I wiill double check on that to be sure though. I still don't know if I will go that route or just get the permit and build an attached garage. I know what you are saying about can't be big enough. Thats why the attached would be better, I can make it much larger than one that can ride in on a flat bed truck and just get plopped down.

We have a place near by that has a 2 car Amish built garage on display. I am going to check out the prices and make a decision in a few months. But either way I will have a home for the cars by this time next year.

Now, what box did I put the car keys in...  :pullinghair:

Dave,

Sorry to hear about your Mother.   :angelwings:

Not having a mortgage payment? There is a reason to to feel relief.    :woo:    :woohoo:

Hey, build a garage big enough, and I will rent a stall from you for mine.    :naughty:

One other point Dave after your last post. Although an attached garage is super convient it also will increase your insurance rates over a detached garage. Well, that is true in Ohio? Reasoning is logical, the spread of fire to the house, and also carbon monoxide gas from the cars. Actually if your somewhat handy in framing carpentry once the foundation is completed you can buy a garage package from lumber yards for $7,000-$10,000, these are complete with shingles, siding, doors, etc. but they will not include your concrete floor, electrical, or plumbing.

I agree with MEK, put up a three or four stall garage and let him pay for it in storage rent.   :roflsmiley:  :roflsmiley:

Good one Jim!!! :roflsmiley: Let MEK help pay for it.  :smilielol:

And good point about the insurance thing. I can do all the constuction work myself so that option is there. I'm just thinking this all out right now. Thanks for your thoughts about this.
