340 Piston and rings
« on: June 15, 2010 - 08:04:03 PM »
I want to disassemble piston and rings to check the condition, If they good, I gonna re-use them.

My question is : Is there any pin in the Piston to keep "Ring's end gap" in their current position? (Cause I think the Rings and Cylinder have developed and relationship of wearing)

If there is not pin to hold the each Rings in their position, I will leave old piston&rings there, I will replace them in the next time.

Thanks!

No locating pins in the pistons, but why wouldn't you just hone the cylinders and put new rings in? :clueless: Rings can be had for a minimal amount.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Rings rotate around a piston during running. If you are just inspecting, leave the rings ont he pistons and stagger the gaps when the pistons/rods go back in. No need to hone or anything else. If you want to replace rings, get a file to fit set and use some green scotchbrite over a flex hone and WD40 for cutting lubricant to break the glaze for the new rings.
