may be a dumb question
« on: June 17, 2010 - 05:26:01 PM »
Since I'm a little short on cash this week I decided to pull a few parts from the engine compartment to clean them up. I pulled the vapor canister and the washer fluid reservoir since the nasty flat black is on everything. I'm doing the outside of the reservoir with lacquer thinner and it's working pretty well although it takes a little scrubbing. Is there anything that will get the inside of the reservoir clean without scrubbing? Kinda fill reservoir and shake sort of thing

Inside is just dirt and some discoloring. No paint that I can see in there

You might try some bleach....1/3 bleach to 2/3 water & let it soak a few hours....your lucky if the OE plastic has held up, while most of my car held up well in dry storage the reservoir fell apart.

Scrubbing bubbles cleaner works miracles on soap scum and dirt in the shower and bath tub.  I don't see why it wouldn't work for your washer reservoir as well.  I'd give it a try if the bleach soaking doesn't work.

Completely forgot what your dealing with...If it's yellow/orange inside it's rust, try CLR straight.

I let it soak with the bleach/water combo for a couple of hours and it cleaned it up quite a bit. I'll get CLR and try that to finish the cleaning. It's really just yellowing now, so I'll give scrubbin bubbles a try too. I did find a small crack, but it's in the bottom where I can epoxy it without it being visible. If it comes out really well I'll post pics along with what I did. If it looks clean, but nothing special I won't bother.

I just throw a hand full of small stones about 1/4" with a little water and shake, everything comes out clean, don't forget to rinse afterwards.   :2thumbs:
