stuck clutch and now grinding
« on: October 01, 2013 - 12:48:22 PM »
I'm thinking if I have to pull the tranny it's not minor. The motor sat for over a year after the dyno with the clutch ass'y installed and it got stuck together so when I towed the car in 4th gear to break it loose it was grinding pretty good,(only towed it about 30') because metal to metal grinding never seems to get better on its own or go away, I either disintegrated the clutch disc or, (GOD forbid) I was not thinking and put the disc in backward. However, if I remember correctly the disc was marked for direction and I kinda remember that it wouldn't bolt up with the pressure plate and the flywheel if the disc was backward.Besides the fact that I am going to look like a complete idiot if i did that. Also it could be that the shifting fork is contacting the back of the pressure plate when I engage the clutch. I Will find out Thursday when I go back to work on her. After I take off the inspection cover I think I can pull the shifting fork out and pull back the T.O. bearing enough to completely unbolt the pressure plate and get a good look at flywheel and see if it is scored from the clutch. Then I can come up with a game plan to fix the problem. I just hope that I don't have to have the flywheel turned as it is new and balanced. I do hope its an easy fix though, hope for the best prepare for the worst right?     If anyone has a better idea or approach please feel free to let me know if I'm way off base with my plan of attack.

Certainly the first thing to do is get that inspection cover off and see what exactly is going on in there? Then make a plan to fix it!
