looking at rearends for my pro street project
looking for a rearend that will work good with 800 to 850 hp

any suggestions? dont know much about the rearend part.
Nos is neat,
Injection hard to beat
But when it"s time to get goin
I'd rather be blown

Funny you should ask, I was just on another Mopar site discussing this very thing. The consensus is that the 60 is the best for the strip but for street the 8.75 is best just cause it is so user or mechanic friendly. I found a 60 locally for 150.00 in a 68 Coronet but don't know yet if it is a sure grip or not. The 60 is much harder to set up but much tougher at the strip, it's also heavier.  :)

If this isn't a sure grip diff is it worth getting for the 150.00 if it is good? It's in an orange 68 or 69 Coronet that has the big white Plymouth letters on the rear quarters, it was used in a movie somewhere locally and ended up out in this little wrecking yard out in the boonies. Must have wanted people to believe it was a Plymouth for some reason, I will dig a little further on this. From a distance I thought it was a Superbird missing the wing because of the Plymouth decal on the rear quarter, bout had a heart attack over that one.  I was working at the time and due to time didn't get any numbers or anything, will get numbers and see what the heck it is.  :D

Yes the dana 60 is worth 150 if it a non powerlock diff. Go get it, and the car too!!!

I know you guys are going to bash the crap out of me for this statement.......but for racing\street a ford nine inch is cheaper than an 8 3\4 and easier swap pumkins and is cheaper than a 60 if you can find a 9inch thats the width you need...

 Last time I built a 9" by the time all the weak parts were replaced it cost a $1000 more than doing a similar Dana 60
 the 9 " from ford has small brgs & axles & you iether need the double rib carrier [expensive ] or the aftermarket carrier with larger brgs & caps to get close to the strength of the 8 3/4 '

I sold my C-body dana with Disks a few years back for 200 bought it for 150

I think a buddy still has one

There Super brake packs from Lebarons (full size) and Suck from the mid 70's           mine was a highway open and needed some brake parts and my car has an 8 3/4 and the money thing to.

Stock dana with disk brakes
1965 barracuda. Was 273/2 904 car had 440 360 in plans
1996 Dodge 1500 ST 5.2 Np3500 4x2 club cab short bed

From who i've talked to that drag races they've twisted and busted 8 3\4 and the people runnin nines under em haven't had any problems...maybe it was just luck...plus i think i'd rather destroy a ford rear than an 8 3\4.. :-\

I have to comment on the post about twisting 8 3/4 rears. They probably didn't have them set up right. I personally had experience with a low 9 second Chevy Nova with an 8 3/4 rear with a set of 456's and almost nothing left of the rear bumper from doing wheel stands up the track. Yea no wheelie bars. The rear was in for 3 years and going strong. The only thing it had extra was the set of race axles because of sanctioning.

i know the guy personally and i know the rear was setup right hes runnin a low 7 second duster and i know another guy with a 440 car that has tore soem 8 3\4s i'm not saying anything against the 8 3\4s but i'd rather screw up a 9in and plus i can get parts cheaper for a 9 than an 8...because my uncle races and has tons of 9inchs that i can get centersections out of...

I have scattered numerous 8 3/4 diffs
 Freak you are lucky to have lots of spares available + you will need the double rib nodular case tio have a strength with the 9 " , to buy good parts new for the 9 is not cheap

Thanks Chryco...i just don't know if i like the idea of runnin a 9in..just doesn't feel right in a dodge... ;D
