I started doing a little work on the body today. The plan was originally to just smooth out the black on the hood etc and hit it with a few cans of tremclad satin black until I get settled here and start on he major stuff. There were a few spots that had bubbled and cracked down to the original red paint so I decided to just get all the paint off the hood and start from there. The were about 10 layers of paint on the hood, along with some major bondo deposits that were up to 1/4 inch thick, so I bought a flap sander for my angle grinder and went on the attack.
I found a little swiss cheese, but other than that it wasn't too bad. A new hood will definitely be in the future, but for now I'm just going to fix up the one I've got. The piece in front of the hood was pretty badly mangled, and I'm thinking I'll need to hunt one of those down too. There were a few poorly patched places near the front of the hood, but once again, I'll work with what I have for now.
It's too dark tonight to get any pics, but I'll get a few tomorrow and post the progress. I might just end up stripping all the pieces one at a time and finding out what I have to replace and what I can just repair. I've found replacement fenders, hood and quarters online on various sites, but I still haven't found the piece in front of the hood. Do they make reproductions of those?
I'll be hitting the hood with primer tomorrow so I can start on the body work and I might even try bondo sculpting the front piece again, although with the shape it's in I'd much rather just replace it now.
