Roadtest
« on: July 06, 2010 - 12:58:59 PM »
I got my insurance this morning so I can take the car out on real roads now, and not just driving around the neighborhood like a 15 year old waiting to get his license. I took a trip to the gas station, followed by a trip onto the hoist at the muffler shop. I wanted to get a good look at the trans and everything else. We found that I only had one tail shaft hold down bolt and that one was pretty loose. Fixed that and found that I'm going to need engine mounts soon too. Other than that everything was good. Took the car for a good burn on the highway and stopped at the Autozone for a few things I needed and it started to rain. Not just rain, but pour like crazy. I found out that all the window seals are good, except the drivers window which I already knew about. Wipers worked, but couldn't keep up with all the rain, but I don't think any wipers could have. I think the third gear sycro is going since it popped out a few times so I had to power shift a few times but it was going into the other gears just fine. Most of the shuddering went away now that the tail shaft is being held down and there are very few rattles to deal with. There are 2 car shows coming up this weekend, so I'll get some pics.
When I got home I found a waterfall from the second floor to the first because water was coming in through a blank electrical box in one of the bedrooms. At least all my floors are tile and I have a 2 foot wide squeegee.

Did you change that bad accellerator cable? Glad you could weather the storm. Look in your trunk to, and also feel your passenger floor board front for wet carpet :2thumbs:

Glad to hear everything is working out, just as well you put the car on a hoist.   :working:
The syncro doesn't hold the gearbox in gear, check adjustment to see if lever is going all the way.   :burnout:
Next time it rains you can take shelter in the car.   :smilielol:

Yeah, I changed the accelerator cable before I took it out. I know I have water getting into the truck, I only have the back half of the trunk seal, but the carpet was all dry. When I had the car up on the hoist I only found a few small holes that I'll need to deal with.
The trans stays in third once it goes in, it's just a little tricky getting it into third in the first place. I will check the adjustment before the weekend
