Intermittent Brake Lights

My brake lights seem to be working intermittently...I think it may be an brake light switch adjustment.

SO my question...do the lights come on as soon as the brake light switch is release (i.e., as soon as the pedel is depressed), or does the switch need to release all the way to activate the brake lights?

I tested the lights with the car not running and they worked...tested with the car running and they did not work?!?!?!?!

The way I have always set the brake light switch at the pedal is...I adjust the switch so that depressing the pedal a small amount (about 1/8 inch) will turn on the brake lights.

Test the red and white wire at the switch for power at the switch with the car running and the pedal depressed. Your test light should light on both terminals running or not when depressed. I agree with fentnmax, any pressure on your pedal should turn on the brake lights. Adjust the sliding switch to do this.
