Installed new fan today.

Just an update for those who where posting on my old thread. Today I installed the new HHR fan on the challenger. It seems to run great I only had one issue. With the old set up the gauge reads allot hotter when the car is left in park. When sitting at a light or so the gauge use to read like a 16th to an 8th above the white line on the temp gauge. Now it reads a little under half way. and drops down as the car is driving. Should I be worried about running the car at such an increased temp? It never passes half way on the gauge but It is like operating about 10-20 degree's more then it use to.

Again everything works great and it never exceeds half way on the dash gauge, but I just wanted to check before going back into daily driving.

PS THE HHR FAN Fits great, puts out a ton of air when it is on and it super quiet. DEFINITELY A GREAT TIP! THANKS!! 

(RELAY AND THERMO KIT WAS A 210 on - 170 off from JEGS) but it seems to kick on at 190-200. Used a Thermo. lazer heat gauge on the radiator to check. Also installed the Thermo-switch to the old vac port in the top tank of the stock radiator. Fit great and seems to be working fine.

I got a painless wiring fan relay kit and mine comes on a little late too. But I ran the car for 30 minutes or so with the nose in the garage ( no air moving) and the autometer temp gauge never went above 195! So I'm thinking all is good to go! I welded a bung on the aluminum rad just under were the top rad hose hooks on so it gets the hottest coolant first .
Ya they sure move a lot of air! I can put a big shop rag ( not a paper towel!) in front of the rad and it sucks right into the rad!

When you are at a standing Idle just before you fan kicks on what does your gauge read?

about 195 same as the engine thermostat, I think it doesn't kick in earlier because of were I have the thermo sensor. ( on the rad instead of in the block/waterpump)

Well after freaking out about it being to hot I went and got a 190 thermostat switch. Trouble is now it seems to turn on once the car is warm and not turn off. The thermo was suppost to come on at one 190 and go off at 180 ish. The temp gauge is in the blue (cold) but the fan still runs on. Turned it off and walked away for a while came back and turned it on and the fan stayed off ( didn't do a full warm up.) so it isn't a sticky switch. I'm going to drive it today, but I just don't know why it wouldn't turn on once it was into a normal range.

I have mine wired up so it shuts off when I turn off the car.

Sorry I miss used the term run on. I mean that the fan keeps running even after the cars temp gauge is very much back to a cool temp.

The switch I got turns on at 185 and off at 170 so I expect it to stay on all the time when it running. When I had the nose of the car in the garage and kept it running for 1/2 hour and the gauge ( autometer) stayed right at 195 the whole time.
 What temp gauge are you refereing to? Stock in dash? or aftermarket? I wouldn't put to much trust in the stock gauges, to me I view them as glorified idiot lights?

If the car won't maintain the temp of the thermostat ( cooler you say?) then I would wonder about how good the thermostat is?

I have a 190 on and 180 off thermostat switch plugged into a port on the radiator. The things kicks on pretty early and doesn't shot off to much. I had to pull over today on the freeway because it failed to kick on. I fooled with it on the side of the road and it kicked on after a few minutes (about 5) then cooled down the motor and I got home just fine. I mounted the relay on the fan showd. Might it have gotten to hot? 
    My Second question is if the switch is kicking on around 192 ish on the radiator. What thermostat should I be running? I don't know what is in it now and would like to just get a new one but I don't know what temp to get.

From what I have heard/seen most people on here seem to run a 185, I'm running a 195 though?
