column to floor question.
« on: July 13, 2010 - 07:28:12 PM »
does anyone have a picture of the parts needed to bolt the steering column to the floor/ firewall?  The 3 big holes must need some special kinda washer or something, but they were gone on my car.    :clueless:

thanks

The three bolts that hold the column to the floor have a large captured washer and are about 1" long - let me see if I have a picture....

I don't have a picture currently, I'll take one tonight when I get home.

Here you go, hope this helps....I'm confident the floor bolts are the correct ones (5/16x18 thread about 1" long) if you are going for originality, the column to floor adapter (2 bolt flange) bolts, I'm not sure about...

If you want, I could pull a bolt and take a picture of it if that would help.

I looked thruogh my bazillion pics of the recent steering grear project. I thougt for sure there would be a pic of the bolts and new gasket (the white part in ntslgl1970's pic). But .......  :grinno: I tried for ya Bart!

nt....70 is 100% correct. The washer's diameter is 1 1/8". I've got 3 bolts like that if you can't find yours.

well... I don`t have the bolts, so it would be great if you you could send them over...  :clapping:   I still don`t see how those washers centre in the holes though. The holes measure roughly 1".  I thought there would be a 45 degree angle to the washer or something like that...  :dunno:

They don't center in the holes. the purpose of the large holes and washers is so that the firewall flange can be moved around to get everything lined up and still be able to bolt it tight to the firewall.

Dutch, I noticed a slight difference between the one from my car and the other three. Mine tapers at the end with some threads missing and has a "cut" at the bottom. However, the three in the pic are 5/16 x 18 x 1 with a 1 1/8 washer and have the exact same head. They will need some cleaning up too. I hate to say this, but can you PM me your address again. I know I still have it somewhere, just haven't found it; that is if you still want them.
