Flywheel for test stand
« on: August 10, 2010 - 08:21:13 PM »
Got motor rebuilt, got test stand, put motor on test stand, started to put original rebuilt starter on motor (using a bell housing I bought just for this reason, my car is automatic)  :swear: The guy I bought the flywheel from said NOOOO problem, well there is a problem. The flywheel is too big for the starter to fit in housing. Now I need a smaller flywheel, sooo, the Nat's are coming up and I'm looking for the smaller flywheel. Question is?? is the flywheel I'm looking for a "10.5" which I hope measures about 13" across (outside of tooth to outside of tooth) and what do I ask for as far as a year or model. Obviously, I don't know a lot about Mopar manual transmissions.  :working: Really don't want to buy a new one just to fire up engine and keep it lubed until the car is finally finished.

If you can't find a good one at a decent price call this place. I recall seeing they had flywheels on E Bay for good prices a while ago like for $139.00. CP bought one and he said it worked fine.

I can't find their Mopar flywheels on their site now. So no guarantee they're still making them now. Probably need to give em a call.

Basically there are 2 flywheels 143 tooth & 130 tooth , you seem to have the 143 tooth version , both in 6 or 8 bolt [hemi ] versions , the 130 tooth uses a 10.5 or 10.95" clutch , the 143 used a 11" clutch with the same clutch disc but the pressure plate was a different bolt pattern

Where are you, and what size engine?  I have a smallblock flywheel and bellhousing you can borrow for break in if you are close enough to get it to you.

I live in Illinois - car is 70 Gran Coupe, 383, auto 727. I bought a bell housing at Indy  swap meet last fall,  and put a  flywheel from a ??six cyl?? (I think - one bolt is off a little bit) Guy was referred to me from Indy Cly Heads. I think we had a mis communication - anyway I think all I need is a flywheel. If yours will work and you can do without it for a while, I'm interested - Thanks ( I am going to Nats Friday and Sat.)

Mine is a 130 tooth from a 340.  I think it will work on a 383 if you have the right bellhousing.  I am near Milwaukee WI.  I am not going to the Nats this year, but might be able to get it to you if you are coming anywhere near the WI/Ill border.  I also do some work in Winnetka IL, and might be able to get it to you that way if you are close.  Email or PM me.
