Stuck Vibration Damper Bolt

 Hey guys anybody got any tips or tricks on removing the center bolt on a vibration damper? While my car is being repainted in the body shop , I wanted to go ahead and clean up the engine, replace the gaskets & seals, and paint engine the correct blue for a 72. I want to pull the damper to get to the timing case cover to replace seal etc. I have blocked the crank and put a 24" breaker bar and my 200 lbs behind it and cannot budge it. I have also tried an impact gun,  again with no results. Anybody else ever run into this? Thanks for your input.

sounds stuck good,,only thing i have ever done different is put a wrench on the bolt and smack it with a shop or even a small sledge  hammer,,i have had success with this when a 1/2" drive impact would not  work,,also you could try a 3/4" impact,an good air pressure

Hold the impact on for several minutes, hold tight with 2 hands - no extension.  Turn the pressure up to whatever your compressor will do.

24" breaker bar and a section of pipe that fits over it will take it off, maybe a 3 or 4' piece will work for you.  I use an EMT bender.LOL  So a 1" piece of rigid pipe pr 3/4" pipe will do.  Need to be thick wall pipe though.

For tight crank bolts I have used the starter motor, Fit the socket on securely with a long bar that rests on either the chassis rail or floor, remove coil wire and then try to start motor. You have to make sure that the bar doesn't move much so it should be resting on rail under battery or on the ground on drivers side, you don't want the bar flying around.   :bigsmile:

try to tighten it a tad more, then turn loose.

Thanks guys, turned up the pressure on the impact gun and held on and it finally came loose. I did have a length of pipe on stand by in case that failed, :)
