Wire Looms/straps for rear tail light harness - 70 Challenger
« on: October 18, 2010 - 03:58:41 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has found a source for the wire looms that hold the wiring harness for the tail lights.  I found a picture on this site yesterday, but there is no reference where I might get new one?   Mine were rotten and need a replacement.   I tried R/T Specialties and ROB1426 on ebay ......

Cheers .... CHAPS

Are you talking about the metal tabs that are welded to the under side of the drivers quarter right by the truck opening?

If you are looking for the woven paper mesh around the wiring there is no replacement.  I think someone was offering a service to redo that mesh a while ago.  They had the same type of machine the factory had.  I don't know if that service is still available.  Short of buying a new harness, I've heard of people using the good mesh that is on the front side of the harness to replace the bad stuff that is visable in the trunk.

I also think the large home improvement stores sell a cloth tape similar to what the factory used on other harnesses.  You could always just wrap it in that.  It wouldn't be 100% correct but it would still have a factory feel to it.  That would look better than wrapping it with black electrical tape.

not hijacking...on a related note I am looking for the best option to wrap my wiring under the hood.
Would a cloth type electrical tape be a good option? Looks better than the plain black. At least it looks "old".
Who sells the fabric/cloth type tape?

Sorry for the confusion on this one.  I am after the metal tabs that slip over the tail light mounting bolts and hold the wire harness from moving around and tucked under the tail lights.   They may be rubber dipped??  It appears to be just a simple metal strip that folds over the harness.   Does that make sense??

The Home Depot used to sell the cloth tape.  I think I heard it was discontinued though.  I'd try them first.

Thanks Barry ..... I get what you mean.   I could persue making some, just thought that perhaps someone was reproducing these parts.

I am presuming that the cloth tape is for wrapping the wires should the net loom stuff fall apart??

If the paper loom is in bad shape and you don't want to replace the harness, the cloth tap would give the harness a factoryish look.  Some harnesses used the cloth tape from the factory...just not the tail light harness.
