Metro SuperSoft roof rail weatherstripping trouble
« on: August 01, 2010 - 05:40:49 PM »
I picked up a new roofrail weatherstrip kit at Carlisle (Metro SuperSoft) and installed the passenger side a week or two ago.....

Well, I just noticed that the damn thing had popped its lower edge out of the groove............not sure if one of my passengers had messed with it somehow or if it just popped out on its own...

So I just spent a half hour re-installing it....

Is there some trick to doing this "right" so it stays in there as good as the stock?  I can pull the stock (old) stuff out and reinsert it and it stays perfectly engaged in the grooves.

I was thinking of using some adhesive, but that will be messy....plus, the stock stuff didnt need it...why should the new stuff?

What trick am I missing? I dont want to do the drivers side til I am sure it is gonna stay in place.....

I have used metro twice and they have stayed in place each time. Once you get them installed they stay in the track

Then what the $^&&*$ am I doing wrong!?!? LOL

What I am doing is sort of rocking the lower lip in first and then squeezing in on the whole thing, and then pushing in the top, using a plastic body filler squeegee to push the top into place.

My OE's did this once upon a time, think I squeezed the channel closed a mite.
On other cars I've had problems with it seemed to be that it's easy to stretch the rubber lengthwise as your working with it, afterward it want's to shrink back causing it to pull out at the curves.
