Anyone Ever Replace Saginaw Steering Pump Shaft Seal ?
« on: August 08, 2010 - 10:57:25 AM »
Our 2nd Dakota has a leaking PS pump & I believe the shaft seal is the problem. On the 1st one I got a re-manufactured unit but I'm thinking of trying to replace just the seal maybe even in the truck.  I checked & the same seal is specified for my '73 so this must be a very common pump.
Anyone ever do this?   Any advice?

 Thanks
Wade

You'll need to get the shaft out. If you do that, you might as well re build it. I re built my Federal. Took about an hour. Albeit, if I did it again, would take less time doing it again.

Here's a re build from the Corvette forum. Chevy or Mopar, a saginaw is a saginaw.

Good link Mike, but I'd probly take the lazy mans way out and just hang a different pump.  :dunno:

Another choice is Pick n Pull. Only 5 miles away from me.  :grinyes:

Thanks for the great link TC.....

This is the seal....In my hard-headed way I'm thinking there must be a way to do this w/o dis-assembly.
