143 tooth flywheel
« on: August 06, 2010 - 10:37:29 PM »
So I just bought a 143 tooth billit hays flywheel, #11-430, used and cheap, I'm trying to change my 360 auto to a 4 speed, I have a a833 with small bearing retainer, and my 360 is internal balanced, does anyone know if this 143 flywheel will work?  It has a clutch and pressure plate with it, I got it cheap from a guy that was moving and it looks great, I do not have a bellhousing yet, is there a way to make this work, if so what do I need, or should I sell this and get a 130 tooth?

its an E-body if it makes a difference

The bellhousing will be the problem.  Chrylser never used the 143 tooth flywheel with a small block in a car.  They did in the trucks but, I don't think those bellhousing ever had the a833 bolt pattern.  All the aftermarket small block blowproof bellhousings I have seen are for the 130 tooth only.

I read somewhere, that if you use a cast sb bellhousing that there is room, but I don't know if its for a a833?  :feedback: :feedback: :feedback: :feedback:

The starter need to be located in the correct position, It's different for the 143.
