How to make sure its a 71 body????
« on: August 07, 2010 - 09:37:16 PM »
Im looking at this 71 cuda on cudaworld.  Members tell me it has 72 rally gauges and seller says cowl and rad stampings are unreadible. How can I be sure its a 71 body. Do most poeple want a cowl and rad stamp that matches? I want to make sure that if I buy it,it will keep its value. Thanks

If the seller will not get CLEAR, readable close up photos for you, keep looking.

If the numbers are truely 'unreadable' they may have been altered. Suspect either a stolen body that was re-numbered or a rust free 'donor' car that was driven under a different, more desirable VIN number.

Always be suspicious of any seller that will not or can not get clear photos of numbers for you.  :2cents:

There may just be a lot of paint biuld up making the numbers un-readable but either way make sure you check them out and they match before spending your dough.

Yes that one.
Problem is, my dream car is a sassy grass green, manual, 71, shaker cuda.
Don't care to much about the BH vin.
But the 360 engine and the lack of visible cowl stampings make me nervous.
I could probably get it for 35K.

It`s a factory BH 318 car  so I wouldn`t worry about them installing the 360 and `72 gages as it`s  far from original anyway.I would make sure the cowl number matches before plunking down 35 G`s though.

Just for the record, it does have the later gauges in it. 70-71 gauges have the clock and trip reset knobs through the trim panel, 72 and later they are through the lens like the one you are looking at.
