Test with a multimeter or test light....don't have one, get one. $20 may not fix. Diagnose 1st.

  you need a multimeter to check the continuity of the wire with the fusable link and it can be used to check voltage at the proper areas ,,if you don't own one you need to invest in one and learn to use it,,it will save you money and headaches in tracing down electrical problems the next time and with any car you own there will be electrical problems

I would not advise a jumper until you know what made it burn. If the link is the cause. The wire's isulation may not burn thru by the way. A simple test is to pull the ends lightly. If the insulation looks good, but the wire stretches, it's burnt thru internally. There is enough juice goign thru that to melt most of the main harness if there's a bad short. So I wouldnt just jump it.

Is the started relay always going to have a fusible link hooked up from the alternator?  Would this wire be part of the engine harness?  I cannot remember if mine does or not and it is still going to be a few days before I am able to get the time to go out and look.  Thanks!

The factory put the fusible link on the starter solenoid/battery wire but runs the alternator output to the ammeter with no apparent protection.  I see the blue fusible link on each of these wiring diagrams http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=24 although the '70 I believe has it backwards showing the fusible link going to the bulkhead & the red wire to the solenoid..On the '73 model, like mine, it shows the red wire to the bulkhead & fusible link to the solenoid.

I replaced the fusible link wire (cheap to buy) and still no power seems to be making it from the battery to the car?? I will get a test light and try that as was suggested but I'm not much of a mechanic and am looking for any suggestions as to what might be the problem. With the key on the car will not turn over.....the headlights / radio will not work. It's like power isn't making it to the car from the battery?? Checked the fuses under the dash as well and also battery connections / even with a battery pack attached to the battery no power seems to get to the car. Funny thing is like I said earlier, when I touched a wrench to the bolt where the fusible link is attached on the inside fender the car will actually turn over???
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I would hate to have to leave it at a shop!

Use the test light, I prefer a multimeter, to trace starting with the fusible link & continue on until the break shows...Shorting the starter solenoid just proves that there is power to the starter...Your probably going to find a bad connection or burnt wire in or at the bulkhead connector, at the ammeter or in the interconnecting wires.

Found my problem!
Was a loose wire at the firewall.
