Where to get a replacement Power Steering Gear Box

As the title states, does anyone know where to get a 1970 Challenger power steering gear box for a decent price?  Most places i have called and major chain stores have wiped it out of their system even though it shows it on the websites.  Just wondering if anyone had any input or suggestions.  Thanks!

Yeah i tried NAPA, as well as a lot of the other chain stores, its shows the part on their websites, but when you try to order it or call them, they say they cant get it and none of their stores or warehouses have it.

Try ordering it as a 73 or 74 unit. More commonly used in other makes since it has the bigger output shaft than the 70-71's. You'll also need a new pitman arm. Good idea to get one anyway and they are much lower in cost than the 70-71's with the smaller shaft.

Consensus here is firm feel was the best choice I recall from an earlier post.

Use the later box as suggested along with the cheaper Pitman arm too.  I got a box and arm from Autozone not too long ago.  Most of the stores don't stock them, you need to find/figure out where the main warehouse store is(hub) and search the inventory at that store.

so the use of the newer box and pitman arm is a direct swap in? nothing else needs to be changed to accommodate for the change?

Other than availability of the newer style box, is there any benefit for it vs the 70 box?

If you were in my area, I'd sell ya a 70 challenger box for 40 bucks. I believe the pitman arm is still on it. Had like 46k on it I think, but it is tight. I got about 3 boxes. But Im not shipping right now

A local auto parts store here sent my to Philadelphia. Had it rebuilt and sent back.

Yes a direct swap. Also according to what somebody else once wrote; The bigger shaft on the late box output shaft seal has a bigger circumfrence. That it is less likely to leak over the long term and last longer. Whether it's fact or not I can't confirm.

It does makes sense since it is less friction due to its size and that the shaft being bigger transfers out more heat.
