Lighter weight oils (10-30, etc) are now reduced in zinc and phosphorous content. That leaves you with heavier oils and racing oils for the most part. As stated above, stay away from SM rated oils.
If you look at the Mobil 1 chart, you will notice that the 15-50 is okay for a street engine. Most legit experts seem to believe that 12-13 ppm is what it takes for reasonable spring rates on a flat tappet cam. High spring rates for big cams probably need more.
Somewhere around 18 ppm, one begins to be in danger of pitting from the zddp according to some engineers and oil should be changed very frequently...which one would do on a race engine, anyway.
If you do a little research, you will find there are quite a few oils on the market these days with sufficient content to avoid the need for supplements.
Valvoline Racing, Brad Penn green, Joe Gibbs racing, Castrol for classics, Mobil 1 15-50, Royal Purple racing, and a number of others fit the bill. A little research will show you which ones are okay and which are lacking amongst the brands
