You can choose your friends but not your relatives
« on: October 29, 2004 - 03:20:41 AM »
How frustrating, I have a brother visiting the US right now & the Aussie dollar is higher than it has been for ages, I need some parts for my 70 Challenger but my dear brother is a total car zombie. Unfortunately I need someone who knows what they're doing to hunt down some used parts & ship them home anyone got any ideas?
Apparently he will be spending time mainly in New York & L.A.

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but rarely can you pick your friends nose  ;)

Maybe find a couple of board members you think are trustworthy and try to get them on the trail.
Sticky situation though, do you front them $$ and wait for them to find the part - or - do you hope they find the part, and if they do, say at a car show swap meet, they have to front the money for your part so someone else doesn't buy it in the meantime.  Then they have to hope to be reimbursed by you...

Don't be to harsh on your brother though.  If I went to Austrailia, and my brother wanted me to find some obscure Austrailian thing, like , say, a Wilcox Co. sheep shearing blade from 1952...  yeah I'd look for it in the course of my vacation or business, but I wouldn't "waste" days on end searching for it when I could be drinking VB or Tooheys and getting a sun-tan.

I guess I got lucky, whole family are gearheads, to some degree.  My sister is a gearhead-chick.  She married a gearhead, so now we're one happy gearhead family!  Bro-in-Law is building a '69 Chevy C-10 and a '73 Plymouth Scamp.  My Mom has surprised my friends before by saying things like "Hey, thats a big swaybar.  Did you just get that?".   Funny to watch my friend's jaws drop.  My Dad, what can I say, he started this whole mess, came home form the hospital in a '71 Chevelle, woke up many young mornings with his '57 Chevy with blown out glass-packs, and now a '69 Chevelle and another '57 Bel Air.

That's my sister and bro-in-law holding the Duster/Scamp/Valiant fender....

Guys
Thanks for the replies & don't get me wrong I love my littlr bro like a.... well sort of like a brother really & I certainly wouldn't expect him to spend his holiday looking for parts. This is his 5th trip to the US though so he's no newbie in fact he has dual citizenship as his dad was a Yank (he's my 1/2 brother in case you're wondering). I just wish he was capable of checking a few wreckers & such & being able to know if what he was getting was the right stuff & in good cond.

I'm looking for rear window chrome moulding complete &  the lower left hand side corner, of the front window chrome moulding. Also the right hand side exterior mirror (sport style). These items I haven't been able to find listed in any new parts catalogue.

By the way I happen to know a place that wrecks out sheep shearing machinery if you really need that bearing, they also have a bar that serves ice cold VB & a sun deck that overlooks Bondi Beach's famous girls change rooms.....the view is SPECTACULAR!!

Cheers SOS

TC
I suppose that depends on where you come from, here we think the left hand side of the car IS the other side. But in answer to your question, all cars made for the Australian market are right hand drive including all Aussie Mopars. Cars imported from the US are either converted to right hand drive or now, can be driven on our roads as left hand drive vehicles (really makes overtaking exciting). My Challenger is staying LHD, that way if you guys ever run out of them over there you'll be happy to pay me big bucks to send mine back.

Cheers
