340 4spd 4bbl Throttle linkage help!
« on: August 04, 2010 - 01:53:21 AM »
does anyone have any pictures of throttle linkage on a 340 4SPD CAR?

I have just upgraded to an edelbrock carb(electric choke)...& the last owner had the thermoquad rigged up with bolts
& nylock nuts which looked really "backyard" to me..

So i need to figure out how its supposed to look.....where springs go?? ......even what the throttle cable bracket looks
like??(it looks like mine has a kick down linkage bar, like off of an automatic car)

any and all help is appreciated!

Maybe posting a pic of what you have would help focus people on what you are looking at.

That is just a pic of a car I saw at a show.  Don't have any other pics of a four barrel.  The 2-barrel set-up is the same.  They just use a bracket with a different angle on it.

Both the 73 340 and the 74 360 used a thermoquad so they should be basically the same.

I agree...post a pic of what you have.

Your throttle cable bracket is just fine and you have the return spring in the correct spot as well. Your problem is your missing the auto trans/throttle adapter.

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/misc/tech_center/install/1000/1481.pdf

I have the eddy 1805 so I wound up getting the 1481 adapter because it just happen to be in stock at auto zone. I have a 2 piece stud and nut for the kick down linkage so it won't apply to you. Not sure what model eddy you have but I'm sure you  can order the appropriate bracket for it for, mine was $12

Here are some pics of my setup on my 340, I removed the kick down linkage so you can have a better look at what it's suppose to look like. Hope this helps.

wD-boston,

I think you have just solved one of my remaining conundrum's... other than my leaking new eddy water pump :swear:...

I have a thunder series AVS 1806 w/electric choke...but my carb looks just like that one.. and from the looks of your picture, those little eddy brackets are exactly what im missing!!

So you said that my 2 springs are in the right location?? Are they supposed to be hooked to the same hole??

thank you for your help!

You should only need one spring for the throttle return. I use 2 because of the kick down for the tranny.

I prefer using the large hole on the throttle linkage in my opinion thats what it's there for. You could always hook the spring between the stud and the throttle cable clip if you wish, it's all preference. Just see what you like best. :)

fantastic wD-Boston!

i went and picked up that 1481 kit today & is now installed on my car!!  thank you!!!!

one more question.. what would be a better set up then just using a bolt/nylock for mounting the throttle cable to bracket...

i see your's is a stud type with c-clip slots but you said yours was auto..so that woun't work for me..

The carb stub length will vary depending if it had auto (longer stud) or a manual. I apologize as I misunderstood it will work, it just appears your missing that piece of the puzzle.
