Not one to be overly proud of... but.
« on: December 04, 2013 - 03:07:59 PM »
About 6 years ago my old co-worker buddies came up to visit after I moved back up north. One guy is pushing 400lbs, the other is bout 140lbs. We take the blue Barracuda out and pick up pops, and I show them round the north country. On our way back to town this Neon pulls up behind us real close, then backs off. Does this a few times, my one friend says "its one of those R/T Neons". Didn't think much of it, see his turn signal at the next dotted lines so I mash it down (3sp manual, cannot shift down into second gear at 60mph, already turning 3200rpms) got up to bout 80 as he goes by. Now I'm pissed I got beat by a neon, dads given me **** and averything. So I stay back a lil bit the next dotted line, and floor it.

That section of road has a long sweeping right hand, down hill turn with a bridge at the bottom. It is a wide road, turn is very gradual, plenty of room, can see for a mile or better, clear highway.

Took a lot longer to get by him than he did to get by me, but dammit I wasn't gonna let off, we rounded the corner onto the bridge, fat man is ghost white clinging to the A-piller, and I look down and see 110 as I pull in front of the Neon. He stayed way back after that, Followed us into town and asked what I had in it. Think he was dissapointed when we got out, and the car raised up 2 inches (from us getting out) and I say "just a slant six!"

Since then I have replaced the kinked off exhaust around the oil filter with a set of Headman headers, really wok it up, but it is still just a 318 3spd car.

Cool story. Just be careful.

It doesn't take much to be up there with Paul.

In my younger days before the kid... car rarely sees over 60 now. "which is fast enough to kill you, but slow enough to make you feel safe."  (Gumbal Rally)
