440 Six Barrel HP question

Does anyone know approximately how much rearwheel HP one gets from a 70 Cuda with a factory 440 six barrel with auto trans? (390HP)

Any dyno results for such?

Im sure some will post results, but depending on the exact tranny and differential, my guess is you lose about 20-22% from the flywheel, so about 310rwhp.

I tested 2 both were modified with ported heads & exhaust manifolds & I tuned both 6 packs
 the one I built used a custom cam & made 315 RWHP
the other one I did not build & I have no clue what cam was used but it made far less with 210 RWHP , most 340s I have tested made more

And whats the weight of a 1970 cuda with a 440 and 727, approx?

I have the same question.  At the local Mopar show here in Atlanta they've had a portable dyno that folks could have their car run on and its amazing how LOW most of the cars scored.  I don't know if its mis-matched parts or what, but the biggest disappointments were fairly bada$$ sounding with many doing around 250 HP at the rear wheels on the dyno.  Weird.

Low compression, small cam, vacuum leaks, poor machining, poor timing, scored cylinder walls, mismatched parts, etc.  A lot goes in to building an engine to get peak performance, especially if it is pretty much a stock build.

 having not built the second engine I have no clue what they did wrong , but porr cam choice or mismatched parts & poor machining is all I can guess , I know the second engine used a good set of pistons & has compression as I was partially involved in the build seeing as I also ported the heads & manifolds
 300 RWHP is much harder to get than most would believe
 approx weight of a 70 Cuda 440 with 727 is 3600-3800 lbs depending on options

Takes an extra 25-35 HP just to turn a Dana 60 also....


"Badass" sounding cams have been sold LONG before the "Proper" matched cam has....People want their car to sound like it'll run with Don Garlits' Rail, but when it's strapped on the dyno, the tail has been told.....
