Wow, I have 1 just sitting in my garage with no intent on using it, I was just gonna have my 727 rebuilt with a heavy duty rebuild kit, shift kit, and get 4 pinion planetary gears in it. I wonder should I keep the aluminum case 4 speed for the future and go with what I have? Nevertheless that was some good info thanks Chryco!!!

I think the deal with the 833OD units is to make sure the countershaft bores are in good condition and not wallowed out. Bush the shaft to keep things in place, and they are a decent trans that bolts in place without a lot of hassle.

Yep, as it runs the counter gear in OD......But, it does bolt right in...

Hell, it bolts up where an A833 Regular 4-speed would've been, but I'm thinking he's talking bout rebuilding them...I can clearly see where he's coming from having customers Probably Whining about stupid noises and breakage on the aluminum transmissions...The shop USED to go into the 4-5-6 speed trans'..Not anymore, as it just isn't worth it...Alot of trans guys don't like the aluminum cases because of the amount of "Stretch" the accumulate over the years if driven hard. However, I've read you can put all the guts inside an iron case...I know there was one year that offered the Cast iron case overdrive trans (1975 or '76). I have an A-body (Short tailshaft) one of these..I just don't like the Chrysler overdrive 4-speed, as it runs the counter gear in OD...Too many R's at 80 MPH with 4.10 gear on the counter gear for my taste...Basically, your driving round in "Third" when your in OD with this trans...
